Hi, my name is Tia. I’m a 37 year old mother of two. I live in Greenville SC but Baltimore will always be my hometown. I have been natural for the last 16 years.

My reason for returning back to natural is because I was unhappy with my hair. I felt like it didn’t fit my personality. My sister is a hair stylist so I’ve had just about every hairstyle from short cuts, to weave, to braids. Tried them all with my relaxed hair. I decided to try no chemicals so I got it cut short and let it grow out and been loving it ever since.

If you are wanting to return natural, you have to have an open mind and be in love with your natural self and not anyone else’s natural self. Everyone’s texture is different so I always hear people complain or be disappointed that their texture is too loose or too tight and they see all these pictures of other people’s curls and expect that.

I also advice you to learn your hair. Learn the texture, the porosity, the thickness. This will help with choosing the right styles and products for your hair.

With my hair being loc’d now I don’t use too many products. I shampoo with Dr. Bronners Peppermint Castile Soap. I also oil my scalp with a homemade mix of jojoba oil, avocado oil and tea tree oil and spray it daily with rosemary and sage infused water.

My favorite go to style when it was loose is a wash n go on my short tapered cut. Quick and easy.
Right now I am semi free forming my tapered cut so I just spray, shake and go.
