Is Your Shampoo Fading Your Hair Dye Color?

Many naturals are coloring their hair and I have rocked a few colors myself. Vibrant colors are making bold statements as many are expressing themselves by coloring their hair. You may notice that your color fades quickly and this is an absolute bummer. If your vibrant red is fading, it will have a dull appearance and can sometimes look orange.

Being selective about my shampoo choices helped me to rock this bold red longer than many are able to using regular shampoos and conditioners.

I do not know anyone who wants dull looking hair. If you are getting your hair dyed professionally, your beautician may tell you how to care for your hair at home and what products to use to preserve your color. I love it when stylists give care instructions. I used to work in a salon in Atlanta, GA, Capri Salon, and we would write hair prescriptions. I thought it was the coolest idea ever to give home hair care instructions.

So, you just colored your hair and now a week or two later you wash it. You notice your color is a bit dull. What do you do? Why is this happening?

Many shampoos contain chemicals that strip the hair of any build up. Unfortunately, these types of shampoos strip the hair of everything, including some of your color. If your hair dye is permanent, the color was able to penetrate the hair strand and get into the cortex of the hair strand where most of the pigments are. Pigments give the hair color. Hair dye also coats the outside of the strand. For those who use hair dye rinses, the dye is coating the outside of the hair strand. You may notice that your color may fade quicker than those who have permanent hair dye.

If you have color, it is good to use a shampoo that will not strip your hair and dull your shine. There are products that tailor to colored hair and maintaining vibrancy and moisture.

A great option to try is Arbonne Pure Vibrance. It is a botanical based fortifying shampoo that can help your color to last for up to 20 washes. It also cleanses without drying. No one wants to purchase color, take the time to do it or pay a salon top dollar and it only last two washes. That is wasted money!

Invest in a color preserving shampoo and conditioner and your hair will thank you for it!
